Being Grateful When Times Are Hard

In our busy lifestyles, we need to be intentional about noticing our blessings. Making it part of your everyday routine is a good way to train your mind for an attitude of gratitude.

When we spend time noticing the goodness in our lives, even on days that are difficult, we can enjoy the beauty and the blessings in the small moments even when the big things feel hard.

Connecting gratitude to your routine is an easy way to get started. Try it first thing in the morning before tackling your to-do list. Add it to your evening dinner conversation. If you have kids, it’s a great way to train them to look at their blessings! It’s also a wonderful way to end your day. Have your thoughts as you unwind, before falling asleep, focus on what you’re grateful for.

On days when gratitude feels hard, listen to yourself as you would a friend or a loved one. When you’re in pain, emotional or physical, blessings can be hard to see. Get support. Take care of yourself.

Don’t force any feelings, but if you’re ready to look with a lens of gratitude, here are a few simple ideas on how to feel grateful during the hard times.
